Sunday, February 3, 2:14 PM ETVMware's (VMW) restructuring, which includes plans to eliminate non-core products, stems from its wish "to go back to the basics of infrastructure and not the whole stack," says VC Bipul Sinha. The announcement follows VMWare and EMC's Pivotal spinoff, and leaves VMware focused on virtualization and data center/cloud management software. There's a logic to this strategy: sales of the comprehensive vCloud Suite (competes in some way with Microsoft, Amazon, Red Hat, Citrix, and OpenStack) are taking off, with customers such as AT&T singing its praises.
