    Coal companies look to finally garner a little good PR with a new research study showing burning high-sulphur coal can help the environment by creating a cooling effect. Shares of coal companies gain: Patriot (PCX +1.2%), Arch Coal (ACI +0.3%), Yanzhou Coal (YZC +1.7%), China Natural Resources (CHNR +2.4%).

  • It also destroys the ozone layer. The cooling effect is temporary but the eventual warming effect (CO2) is long-lasting. It's a real reach to call this "good PR".

    Damn, damn and triple-damn! Just when I thought we had this thing figured out, new research on sunspot activity proves we are now entering a period of global cooling.

    I guess we'll have to go back to low-sulphur coal and spraying Right Guard on our pits.

    Oh well, I'm willing to make the sacrifice if it will save the planet.
