30 days really? Is it even possible that production has ramped up that much? At the end of December the sales rep told my family that it was 6 months to a year or some ridiculousness.

Important article on the key questions for Tesla published this morning: http://bit.ly/132bhTE Lead times appear to have fallen dramatically; the question is why. And where is the break-even point? Didn't Elon say at the last shareholder meeting that it was at 8,000 cars per year? Or did I hear that wrong?

I believe that 8000 vehicles/yr is what's required for net positive cash flow -- not profitability. Many more cars would need to be sold to cover R&D, SG&A, and CAPEX, plus some profit. That's why Elon has only predicted a single profitable quarter in 2013. 2013 is still very much a building year -- lots of new stores, service centers, superchargers, and additional capital equipment for the Fremont plant. I'm expecting the real profit stream to emerge in 2014.

I`ve seen VINs up to about 6000, which means Tesla has produced about 6000 Model S so far. At least 5500 of them are the 85kWh version. Delivery 30 days after reservation is made simply cannot be correct, but you might get the car within 2-3 months (85kWh, air and available color), since people ordering the 40kWh has been presented with delivery windows summer 2013.

Wait time all depends on battery size and options. 85s right now are hot, 40s are not. Call any Tesla rep on the planet and see if they'll say you'll get a 40 in a month... Not one will do it.

I configured and placed the order for my model S with 85KW on 1/29//20013 and was given a delivery date of April - May 2013. This indicates a 3-4 month time frame after placing finial order.

This would be more reasonable art57 thanks for sharing your experience.

Given it's been a month since you scheduled yours things could have changed to make it 30 days but then I would argue why aren't you getting yours sooner as well.

If the 30 days statement is accurate then I could order today and get mine before you do potentially; which as mentioned would be a PR nightmare if true.

I called Tesla today and they confirmed my delivery date of April-May 2013 has not changed since placing the order on 1/29/2013. I was also informed that the earliest a standard model S with smaller engine and zero extras lead time was at least two months.

Our 85 kWh Model S was delivered yesterday. We place our deposit in July 2012 and were were reservation no. 10401. In the MD/DC/VA area they are delivering 6 cars per day, 6 days per week. They are hiring more staff to do deliveries as the cars are arriving faster than they can get them into buyers hands. Our car sat in Rockville for over a week before we got it.
Quick report: car is fabulous! Our commute is 45 miles each way. The energy indicator was very accurate. ON a 208 plug at the office it recharged 60% in three hours.
Tesla is going to make a lot of money. We own stock as well.

I found out today that my Dr. received his over the past weekend. His is the big battery with the car all tricked out. He says he ordered it in July 2012. He loves it, won't bring it to work until he gets a garage built for it. So now I think there are three Teslas in Sacramento, all white, but I know who two of them belong to.

Someone is confused. You can NOT order a Model S today and have it delivered to your door in 30 days. You MIGHT order a Model S today and receive an e-mail to 'confirm configuration' of your Model S within 30 days. But it's not being delivered to you, no way, no how.

Really, does nobody check their information any more before writing it as fact?

I think that is mostly what the comments are confirming it is unlikely that you get the car in 30 days so either the author of the update is very poorly articulating his point or the memo/article that released the 30 day statement is woefully inaccurate.

I think (hope) my 85KWh model S will be ready in time to take my tax return to the local post office. Not that I'm eager to make that drive so quickly! I test drove on November 17th, and made my deposit that very same day. I calculate that's more than 30 days, but my math could be affected by my emotions....which are running strong. For those of you who haven't taken the test drive: don't even think of it unless you are in a position to act! Seriously, this is a very, very cool ride.

As of the beginning of this week, 2/18;, the lowest VIN seen at the beginning of assembly was #6021. At the end of the line about to move to final testing was #5742 & #5741.
A customer on Fri or Saturday took delivery of #5443. A customer in Fl was told his car was on the way to Tampa and would be delivered around the end of February, #5345. VIN 5051 was sitting on a one car trailer with a sticker that said "Local"

My order date was end of January - my reservation number is 1862, but my wife wanted the Sunset Red so we waited and are told delivery will be in April-May - whenever it comes it will be exciting, a grand experience - right now I drive a dually diesel which costs me about $125 per week to fill up - the savings will pay for $500 of the payment - excellent return - any husbands out there with wives hanging back, get them in for a test drive - reluctance over!
