Fox (NWS -0.5%) will erect a new paywall by delaying internet access to new TV shows for eight days after their initial broadcast. Understandable, since “in the long run, if you give it away for free on the internet, you can’t charge for it on cable.” Except that it won't work, Peter Kafka writes, and will only serve to kick off "the great web video piracy boom of 2011."

  • Other networks have had that 8 day delay or similar for a long time. Fox was the only one that did not.
