Monday, February 25, 9:44 AM ETH-P (HPQ) is officially done with webOS and embracing Android. LG has bought webOS and related IP from H-P, with plans use it in smart TVs. H-P tried to reinvent webOS as an app development platform, but that didn't go far, and much of the team left for Google. Meanwhile, H-P has announced the Slate 7, a $170 7" Android tablet that supports H-P's ePrint tech, but sports ho-hum specs otherwise. H-P, which has delayed making Windows RT tablets, says it wants to "have a broad set of [tablets] on the market" - Microsoft might not be thrilled to hear that. (high-end tablet rumor)

Dell and Microsoft will be taking out Android's tablets in short order
$170, probably sell for less at retail.
Anything short is irresponsible to HPQ shareholders!
Corruption, all over the place.
It was a great idea, especially for its printers.
It appears HP is throwing in the towel on that and may prefer Android for the same...
What's not mentioned in this deal is whether HP retains any rights to making WebOS based products or access to the Palm patent portfolio. Clearly for LG the value is in having it's own pocket OS competitor to stuff like Tizen and the patents, but is HP hanging onto anything at all here?
