Bernanke: Economist or politician? The chairman goes near purple with rage as a Senator suggests he's a dove. I've got the best inflation record of any post-war Fed chairman says Bernanke, pointing to a 2% average. So that's how we're ranking things? By that spurious reasoning, Paul Volcker has the worst inflation record of any Fed chief ever.

  • I have a scary feeling this will result in one of our time's great ironies, on par with the following:

"When anyone asks how I can best describe my experience in nearly 40 years at sea, I merely say, uneventful. Of course there have been winter gales, and storms and fog the like, but in all my experience, I have never been in any accident of any sort worth speaking about. ...... I never saw a wreck and never have been wrecked, nor was I ever in any predicament that threatened to end in disaster of any sort."

  • This administration and Bernanke have perfected the perversion that if you tell a LIE enough, with more indignation each time it will somehow turn it REAL!

Sir, you and your policies are KILLING the working slob and have permanently DESTROYED the once mighty Free Market System,
because S.A. is a family themed blog I will resist the Massive Urge to really let you know how I feel!
A pox on all your houses!

May the good lord watch over this once mighty experiment in freedom / man's self rule we once proudly called America

  • I hope that's now how we will measure success. Japan has had negative inflation for years, and certainly would not be considered the land of milk and honey.

  • Congress is a joke, its good to see that a lawyer who has no idea about economics is trying to lecture a PhD just to get a sound bite for his re-election campaign. This whole things is a waste of time.

  • bbro,
Bernanke's a fool who's never had to work in the real world. It doesn't take any intelligence to print money and hand it over to the likes of poorly run Big Banks like Citi and JPMorgan Chase.

If you want to follow someone, follow someone successful in the real world like John Allison formerly of BB&T. Bernanke hails from Princeton - the same place that idiot Alan Blinder resides.

  • I am watching the testimony. I did not see him go "near purple with rage."
I did see Chuck Schumer be unprepared for his turn at questioning Mr. Bernanke.

  • Purple with rage is an absurd comment. Did you actually watch the testimony? I did....

Seeking Alpha please have your people put their name with what they write so I can learn which ones make absurd comments like that and ignore them.

  • if the banks hadn't put shotguns to their own heads and left themselves with bloody neck stumps, bernanke would have finished his career as just another invisible policy wonk.
