    Starbucks (SBUX +2.2%) CEO Howard Schultz calls on other firms to stop political contributions to candidates until a long-term debt and deficit solution is delivered, according to an email obtained by Bloomberg News. Last week, it was SBUX employees Schultz called on to forego political donations.

  • It's a moronic idea. The debt/deficit problem is a problem that needs to be resolved. The purpose of political contributions is to get the people who represent your point of view the money they need to get elected. I am in the camp that a credit limit increase of 75 times WITHOUT an end in site is too many, and we must STOP SPENDING so much -I will continue to contribute.

    P.S. - If you are in the camp that says no -we need more tax money so we can continue to spend spend spend - by all means -you should stop contributing.

    Not really. The bulk of contributions go to incumbents so it would be those in office, not the upstarts, who would be hurt more. And every candidate has a base of support outside of the corporate and PAC contributions so this would tend to even the playing field.
