"I am an entrepreneur at heart and now is the right time for me to start a new chapter within Google (GOOG)," writes Andy Rubin in a memo about his departure from the Android team. Rubin adds he remains "passionate about the power of a simple idea and a shared goal — an open source platform freely available to everyone — to transform computing for people everywhere." Any chance he's put in charge of Google Glass?

  • What if it's the first step to reeling in Android a bit closer to home (and a bit closed altogether)?

  • Google's come to the realization that much of their Android efforts only benefit Samsung and other competitors, and so they've pulled their best and brightest to go do something else ... something that they can control the intellectual properly and make money from ... you know, the way that Apple does!

Android is Linux based, so the source code is not owned by Google, but in the public domain. If Google decides to do something else, might it be something other than Android/Linux-based?
