    VMware (VMW) is using its VMworld conference to further expand beyond virtualization, and into the broader world of IT infrastructure management. The company's new vFabric Data Director platform is of particular interest, given its potential to undermine Oracle (ORCL) by allowing customers to more easily manage databases from multiple vendors.   • Probably not a concern to Oracle, since from what I just read, its technology is more targeted at BMC and Computer Associates products on the operations and provisioning side. If they extended into data virtualization and federation, then things could get interesting for Oracle (and IBM).
