Friday, September 16, 2011, 9:11 AM ETMicrosoft (MSFT) douses the hopes of PC enthusiasts by declaring software written for the x86 chip architecture used by Intel (INTC) and AMD won't run on Windows 8 systems featuring ARM-based (ARMH) processors. At the least, this should give Intel and AMD some time to counter the threat posed by ARM licensees such as TXN, QCOM, and NVDA.

so upgrading in the windoze ecosystem just got way expensive, whatever aid it lends to intel and amd.
back in the day, apple crashed when power pc forced people to do a total refresh. so many mac types just went to the cheaper solution.
popular apps will have to be ported, rewritten, to run. ports usually are glitchy.
added expense, reliability of apps, a lot in the air with apple improving machine sales.
a perilous time for msft.
Please people don't buy ARM desktops and servers you will just be giving yourselves big headaches long term anyway.
