Too late for me as well. We cut cable service and replaced it with streamed content from the internet over a htpc. Cable companies will have an uphill battle to get my $$ again.

A primary reason for my not having cable is that 90% of the channels on there are ones I don't want to have to click through (and pay for!) to get to the few that I am interested in. Discovery would be one of the ones to keep, along with History, maybe AMC. I'm on the conservative end but I still watch PBS. I can't be the only one. A la carte cable + internet might be just the thing to make me a new customer - depending on price, of course. I suspect that most families with kids would want DIS and the other 'good' channels.

a la carte is the best way to go.

I was sick of having to pay for 100 channels when I only wanted 2. If the price is right I could see myself becoming a cable subscriber again.

Cable policy concerning "package" based subscriptions has always been anti-consumer. Whoever manages to break that barrier (I hope Apple has the clout to enable it) will bring tons of business, including mine, back to the cable fold. Imagine being able to order your TV like you buy one or two favorite songs from an album in iTunes!

Apple is close, the problem is that the studios are still holding the price up. HD TV programs are currently $3 per episode. At 4.3 new episodes per month and being interested in 5 different shows per week, thats about $65/month not including any movies during the new season. Of course it's zero during reruns. The cost needs to be about half that for it to make sense to me.
