Safe havens are offering little more than wealth protection (if that), and if you were thinking of dividend stocks, they may have a long way down to go yet. What about getting off the coaster? Over the past two months, S&P's Low Volatility Index lost just 1.1% vs. the overall market's 9.8% decline, and it's holding up over longer periods too (+80% over the past 10 years). New low-volatility ETFs: SPLV, LVOL, LBTA, SLVY, SLBT, BTAL.

  • The time to have reduced volatility was back in late 2010/early 2011l. Now,with the world ending and the market down,it's time to increase volatility. but that's a contrarian view, and as we know, contrarians are always wrong.

  • Will check this list, interesting, and will check. However at this point, with the situation in the U.S. (uncontrollable deficits), and Europe (Hopeless souverin debt), further investment in equities seems a bit risky.

  • One reinvests dividends - you can't reinvest volatility etc.

  • We also have the option of just staying out of the market. Even less volatility.

  • True, cash is a position too, just like Doggie style, which one can experience from the receiving end, by remaining both long and unhedged in this market.

  • Market emotion makes trades less certain. Low vol plays could be portfolio linkage plays that overall make sense a la pairs trades. TVIX does not have l-t leveraged holding issues?
