  • Very bad deal, at least compared to Google's $12.5B Motorola acquisition:

    - Motorola has 17000 patents plus 8000 pending;

    - Motorola has world-class cell phone manufacturing facilities;

    - Motorola has $3 billion in net cash, making this essentially a $9.5 billion acquisition;

    - Motorola is profitable.

    - Motorola's strength and weakness are very well known to Google people through their long cooperations.

    Now what does Skype offer? Let's see:

    - Skype has hundred millions of users;

    - Skype has a few interesting technologies;

    - Skype has very few patents;

    - Skype is losing money badly;

    - The deal costs $8 billion.
