Intel's (INTC) ultrabook initiative may be off to a shaky start: DigiTimes' sources claim Acer and Asustek will only ship 100K ultrabooks this year, below prior forecasts. Apple's (AAPL) huge share of the high-end consumer notebook market, partly the result of booming sales of its ultrabook-like MacBook Air, could be making other PC vendors cautious. (previously)

  • I've never paid up for a Mac before, but the advances in iOS may squeeze the extra $600 from my pocket over the Acer ultrabook. The problem is for Intel, Acer and Asustek is Windows. I just can't stand working with software that hasn't advanced since 1997 and still crashes daily. Every update I've gotten for my XP Pro and Vista machines have slowed the system significantly...

  • The HP dual-core laptop for 248.00 at WalMart with windows 7.0 works just fine and has never crashed. Why would they pay triple the price for something that has the apple name and works a tad better?

I heard that you need to make at least 6 figures before you typically start throwing like 500 extra dollars at stuff to sport a brand name. But if it creates jobs and makes you feel good, then great.
For work, we use the Linux machines with Unix-like applications.

  • Wow, a study on income and my decision to buy a quality product. Flattering! The "tad" better that Apple delivers will save me from crashes during market hours. In addition to saving me money in the long run, I do hope it creates jobs.

  • That's flatly ridiculous. Windoze is windoze. You get what you pay for, but that BS of yours about 3X the money or sporting a 'brand name' is sporting you ignorance.

Mac can run Windoze, and extremely well. Windoze can't run Mac at all. Face facts, your Windoze PC might be enough for you, but its worth far less than the Mac. This is true--try SELLING one.

Your PC is simply worth less to begin with for this reason--the Mac software is vastly better. Not just my opinion. the design quality, and support is far better. And it integrates incredibly well with iOS, not marginally, like the lame, Windoze, kMart kwality from Mickeysoft.

Apple doesn't make low-end systems with hobbled processors, just to eliminate all investment in software--and it shows!
