"What I’ll be doing [at Google] is developing hierarchical methods specifically aimed at understanding natural language, extracting semantic meaning," says inventor/futurist Ray Kurzweil in a wonky interview discussing his plans for Google (GOOG) search. Kurzweil hopes to create a "deep learning algorithm" that leverages a huge natural-language database to decipher the actual meanings of search phrases and article texts. Google has already been investing in natural-language analysis, and Yahoo has begun dipping its toes in this space as well. (Wavii acquisition)
