H-P (HPQ) is looking to sell the webOS mobile platform it obtained when it bought Palm last year for $1.2B, Reuters reports, although H-P is unlikely to make back its money as the software hasn't received significant investment in over a year. Those who may be interested include Amazon (AMZN) and Research In Motion (RIMM).

  • webOS is terrific, but Amazon won't buy webOS, it's too easy to use Android's open source. Only Microsoft and RIM are legit buying prospects, because they are both searching for an OS that can connect to people.
