  • A Short Rant On "Cliff" 6 comments

    I have watched in utter amazement how our elected officials have handled the fiscal cliff issue. I suppose I should not be surprised or shocked since they have been acting this way for a decade or more.

    I am not going to get into the he/said/she/said debates, or point fingers, but it is clear to me that our political system is in need of repair. Correct me if I am wrong, but aren't the folks in Washington OUR employees? Do they NOT have a fiduciary responsibility to the citizenry as a whole?

    I see not only a lack of leadership, but a lack of common sense that borders on stupidity, from every single "leader" we have in office.

    The details of the "cliff" have been bandied about ad nauseum, but the fact remains that the perception will become reality. If no deal is struck, then the markets will tank. Then they will recover of course, but not before hurting countless millions of regular investors.

    NOBODY wants to see their portfolio drop by 20% even for one measly month! Many will run away and never return. The impact on spending could be serious as well. Not because of the reality, but because of the fear that our elected officials have fed to our nation.

    If the smartest folks in the room are complete idiots, what the hell are we sitting around for. Ross Perot said it best; "GET OUT THE BROOM, CLEAN OUT THE BARN!"

    Each and everytime I read about another bank or financial institution caught in wrong doing, I write my Congressman Duncan Hunter.
    While I strongly support and respect Mr Hunter,I ask him 1 simple question..............
    "Why is our country allowing this to continually happen ? "
    and while I never get a response,I feel every American should do the same..........
    WAKE UP..........its disgusting
    It is no longer a Government by the people for the people,it is a Government of partisan in-fighting and pocket lining.
    I dont feel we should go on Seeking Alpha ranting our political views,I dont feel that is the intended use of this fine website.
    Simply stated in my best "Jersey Accent"
    "Im PISSED at all of them for allowing our country to slide to this level."

    Personally, I'd love my portfolio to drop 20% for a month, so I can buy more of everything.

    Its because it is a very uninformed electorate who base decisions based on sound bites and don't have a very good grasp of the issues or the solutions and don't know of all the hypocrisy their elected officials commit.
    Both parties are useless.

    The fiscal cliff is just a distraction. This country is already over the cliff and has been for a while. It will soon become time to pay the piper and we will all pay.

    There will be a 2013 recession regardless of how they act on this fiscal cliff issue right now.
    I would not invest new money in anything at this time because it will be much cheaper sometime in 2013. Its a good time for making a list of what you want and patiently waiting.

    Two points here. First, the fiscal cliff is the Republican version of global warming: based on some fact, but way over rated. Gives the Republicans something to run around sounding important about. If we "go off the cliff", growth may slow for a quarter, but that's about it.

    Second, I think think our elect officials are a pretty fair representation of the electorate. No integrity in D.C.? Probably about the same level as the population as a whole. What kind of a legislature should the "all about me" people of America expect?
