  • A Difficult Week On The Home Front 10 comments

    I had a bunch of articles written and published this week and I do appreciate the amazing readership.

    I have not been quite as responsive as I normally am but I have had some family matters to deal with. As many of you know I spend the summers at my home in New Mexico, and this year's summer has been saddened by the loss of my mothers significant other.

    He was 88 years young and in damn good shape until we left for NM. Unfortunately he did not make it and we have had to venture back and forth to my Florida home to help my mom, and tie up loose ends.

    The man was a WWII war veteran, who fought for our nation on the front lines, and was on Omaha Beach in 1945. Needless to say we have been blessed to have known him for the last 20 years, as my mothers "significant other".

    We were the only real family he had as his son passed away 3 years ago, and he had no relationship with the rest of his immediate family. For all intents and purposes, we were his family.

    My heart is heavy as I write this because in many ways he was my second "dad", and he will be missed.

    Rest in Peace LN, you are always with us.

    Sorry for your family's loss... My grandmother 88 lost her significant other this week as well, 94. I understand what you are going through. WW2 generation created men of steel, the exact opposite of what you see nowadays...

    Aw, so sorry to hear that. Condolences to you and your family, especially your mom. He sounds like he was an amazing guy, and he was lucky to have you as his family.

    Sorry to hear of your loss. I know how you feel. I lost my father this year at 86. He was also a WWII veteran who flew 37 missions over Italy and Germany. He was strong and tough to the end, like so many of his generation.

    Thanks everyone for your thoughts. My dad was in the 101st airborne division and jumped behind enemy lines on DDay, he passed 25 years ago, LN was an Army Infantry on the beach's bloody sands.

    There are not many left from that generation of real heroes and all of them are precious in so many ways. Being a Vet of Vietnam myself, I am proud to be linked to those who served for me.

    Men of Steel for sure.
