Total retail sales remain below their 2-year average. Sales of automobiles and building materials are particularly weak. Sales of Department Store Type Merchandise rose a strong 0.8% in January and post a 6% annualized gain in the last 3 months.

Non-store retailers continue to gain market share at a spectacular rate with January sales up 1.6% MoM and 11.1% YoY. DSTM-stores sales are up 1.1% YoY in January.
