I was chatting the other day with a friend who manages money for private clients, using separate accounts. He focuses on asset allocation using no-load mutual funds. Here's what he said:
- Staying 100% in cash was the right move a year ago. But it's really tough to justify that to clients when you're taking a 1-2% fee from them.
- The biggest fear any money manager has is staying out of the market when there's a rebound.
- The recent rebound caught many money managers by surprise, and they are now starting to increase portfolio allocations to stocks.
- Expect significant cash inflows into stocks.
- Massive inflows = continuation of the market's rebound.
