  • SIRI: Horrible 23 comments
    Dec 17, 2013 10:45 PM | about stocks: SIRI

I waited 10 years and tried Sirius again, I have not technically un-subscribed but, uh, I think your interface is terrible, you make me find Charlie Rose as if you have no idea of what I am looking for, and then you have ads. SIRIOUSLY, I did not mean to offer an opinion, but Sirius is remarkably below my hopes.

The Stilletto is my favorite electronic device ever. Any song you hear on the radio, you push the heart button and it adds the song to your library of mp3s.

I've never had the service, but I once made a good bit off the stock!

Side note - XM headquarters is in Washington D.C. It isn't too far from the White House. Pretty nice building.

I didn't realize you spent some time in the area! I'm in Maryland just outside the city myself.

Since we're talking about music services, Pandora is a tough stock to predict. I thought for certain that Apple's service would take a chunk of their users but it seems Pandora is a rather loved stock. Almost bought in at $16 or so earlier in the year!

It must be odd to own a piece of hardware and share software with another company. I.E. Pandora and Apple, Apple and Amazon, Apple and Google Maps and so on... If I were Apple I would just write some software that would crash Pandora every time you opened it.. Wonder if this is doable.. I'm kidding of course, but it would be funny..

While were on the subject of things that suck, have you guys seen the barrage of lyrica commercials lately for fm? Pfizer must be trying to get their remaining dollars ahead of generic.

Author’s reply » I have to add, the SIRI management thinks that Charlie Rose is such a draw that I would:

    -pay for it

-waste my time wading through the crap SIRI wants me to see while I look for his content

-and then waste my time listening to commercials AND DAYS/WEEKS OLD MARKET NEWS*

*THIS is where your technology is!?

Joe - A little confused by your comments. For example, what interface are you talking about? That all depends on the device you are using. All the music channels are commercial free. What is the days/weeks old market news? I listen to CNBC on Sirius regularly and they have the Bloomberg channel as well as other news channels.

I don't think they are hyping Charlie Rose. I signed up many years ago when Howard Stern joined Sirius, but they have plenty of channels. I understand everyone might not want to pay, but it's not exactly a lot of money and you seem really angry. I'm not sure what you are looking for.

Oh, there you go. Sirius isn't targeted at internet listeners.

Sirius is for people who spend a lot of time driving, particularly in rural areas where you can only get country stations.

For people in these situations, streaming something like Pandora doesn't really work-
    1. 2 hrs./day 3g streaming costs ~$50/mo.
    2. 3g/4g coverage is spotty.

Ive had Sirius for about 7 years and love it on the road. I only listen to a handful of channels though..Howard Stern, Bloomberg, various sports channels, Lithium, Octane and the 80s station. Great at the gym as well. They should really create a user interface to create playlists of songs or allow you to choose preferred music similar to Pandora of Spotify. Definitely room for improvement.

i wish i had it for the car. having to tune into am radio for bloomberg is really depressing... especially when you are trying to listen to an interesting interview and then drive over a bridge or under an overpass...

Joe any thoughts on Ariad Pharmaceuticals (ARIA)?

Getting a lot of buzz with the FDA news - curious what your take is.

    Thanks in advance

Author’s reply » I've been getting some emails about it, thing is it is a known story and has doubled off the lows recently, I don't really have much of an opinion except insiders have not bought after the crash, and some even continue to sell under $6:

Thanks for the quick reply Joe

I stayed away but will continue to watch; too many reasons that leave me unconvinced it will climb back to $20+.

Hope you and yours had a nice holiday
