  • TransCanada 2013 Profit Rises 32% 1 comment
    Feb 21, 2014 4:24 AM | about stocks: TRP

TransCanada Corp reported a 32% YoY rise in 2013 net profit to C$1.7 billion (US$1.5 billion). The company attributed the increased net profit mainly to higher earnings from the Keystone pipeline and from the Canadian Mainline.

    2013 highlights

    · Revenue from pipelines of C$5.6 billion, up 6% YoY; boosted by strong performance from gas pipelines

    · Capex of C$4.5 billion, up 72% YoY

    · Income of C$361 million from Canadian Mainline pipeline, up 93% YoY

    · Comparable earnings of C$766 million from the Keystone pipeline system, up 8% YoY, due to higher volumes

Russ Girling, TransCanada's President and CEO, commented: "Comparable earnings increased 19% to C$1.6 billion and funds generated from operations were up 22% to C$4 billion. The strong year over year results reflect a return to an eight unit site at Bruce Power, higher Western Power volumes, an increase in New York capacity prices, growth in our NGTL System, and a higher Canadian Mainline return on equity. We now have a C$38 billion portfolio of commercially secured projects backed by long-term contracts."

In November 2013, TransCanada announced Q3-2013 profit of C$481 million (US$460.7 million), up 30% YoY, driven partly by higher power prices in Alberta and New York.

In July 2013, TransCanada Corporation reported a net profit of C$357 million ($347.1 million) in Q2-2013, up 19% YoY.

Disclosure: I have no positions in any stocks mentioned, and no plans to initiate any positions within the next 72 hours.

TRP kicked ass in a very cold winter. This may be due to the FACT that we are leaving the most active part of the solar cycle, causing Earth temperatures to fall, sometimes drastically. Without the solar flare activity heating the Solar System Earth experiences very cold winters and increased storm activity.

TRP owns, operates and supplies many power companies in North America. One of their many real environmental goals has been to maintain their enormous pipeline systems to feed the refineries and fuel the power companies. Environmentalists' childish tantrums have made it impossible to replace major pipeline, some of which are quite old, causing leaks and forcing the use of railroads to transport crude products. Delay of Enbridge's massive gas pipeline, serving Eastern Canada and USA is and will be a cause of death to Humans and animals.

Major pipeline Corporations have made energy generation possible in an ever-safer way. My last count on train-wrecks over the past few months is now at 6 or 7. Crude is very difficult to transport by rail. Just maintaining tracks is very expensive and currently far behind covering transport needs to refineries, storage, ports, etc. It will take a decade to build the tens of thousands of miles needed to replace pipelines at an impossible price. Remember, we've forced most of the steel industry out of business with the destruction of the Coal industry.
