TransCanada has agreed to build a natural gas pipeline for C$1.9 billion (US$1.74 billion) to help feed Chevron and Apache's proposed LNG project near Kitimat, British Colombia. The project will consist of approximately 260 km of 48" diameter pipe.
The proposed Merrick Mainline Pipeline Project will transport natural gas to the proposed Pacific Trail Pipeline which will terminate at the Kitimat LNG Terminal. The proposed project will be an extension from the existing Groundbirch Mainline section of the NGTL System beginning near Dawson Creek to its end point near the community of Summit Lake in British Colombia.
TransCanada President and CEO Russ Girling commented: "The initial work for the project is proceeding well, and we anticipate filing an application with the National Energy Board in Q4-2014 for approvals to build and operate the project. Subject to the necessary approvals, we expect the Merrick Mainline to begin service in Q1-2020."
Kitimat LNG Plant ownership: Chevron (50%, operator) and Apache (50%).
In Aug-2013, TransCanada announced its plan to proceed with the $1.5 billion North Montney extension.
In Jan-2013, TransCanada was selected by Progress Energy to design, build, own and operate the Prince Rupert Gas Transmission project in British Columbia, Canada.
