  • Mongolian Parliament To Hold Special Session Focused On Economy 3 comments
Aug 18, 2013 6:07 PM | about stocks: TRQ, RIO, MNGGF

    VOA News:

Mongolia's parliament announced on Friday it would hold an emergency session next month, as the country looks to ward off an economic crisis sparked by uncertainty over its biggest mining project and falling foreign investment.

In my article I posted yesterday this is exactly the kind of action I was expecting. Hopefully this will take place and the parliament will come up with some action items to change perceptions for foreign investors. At the very least the government recognizes the issue and will be discussing remedies.

Disclosure: I am long TRQ, OTCPK:MNGGF.

    Stocks: TRQ, RIO, MNGGF

Double or nothing for GOM ?

Raising expectations for the week of sept 2-6 when so many foreigners will be in UB for conferences is risky business :)

Whatever is done or said within the Parliament doors will be known at once by foreign investors hanging around.

Just hope they know what they do and have sharpen the pencils before to approve clearly (what they may have already decided) and leverage positively the air time they will be getting...otherwise :(

Author’s reply » I am hopeful they realize the error of their ways but we have been here before. I am adopting the old cold war mantra, "trust but verify". I think both of us are more long term in our orientation regarding Mongolia so I am going to ride out the storm so to speak. It seems the GOM can't seem to get out of its own way and ends up being its own worst enemy.

Don't give in to any changes in the 2009 agreement. To do so would bring on this same thing every two years . If their contracts have no meaning, lay off 100 employees per week until they affirm the contract or you shut down the copper open pit. Why should you affirm your efforts?
