  • Kazakhstan Devalues Tenge By 18% (Same % As 2009)'s About Time! Implications For Mongolia, Kyrgyz, Etc 2 comments
    Feb 11, 2014 8:18 AM

KZ has been way too expensive vs Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, etc

Guesthouse and hotel prices are still considerably more expensive for what you get in neighboring countries

Implications for Mongolia, KG, Tajik, etc?

If Tenge 18% cheaper, then goods it produces are cheaper relative to neighbor countries. Import costs rise.

Profitability higher for oil, gas, mining companies who pay wages in KZT ?

Perhaps they reduce their prices for such exports?

Author’s reply » Mark Mobius ... you are too slow .. today's news article mention by you is what i wrote about YESTERDAY!

but still, i do not think it is a 100% differential gain for KZ mining companies (either KZ miners reduce their prices so they sell more OR workers start demanding more because the cost of many things, especially imports, will rise and they now have 18% lower wealth ... you bet i would be talking to management for wage increase!)
