Opened Santander 10.5% preferred (Yahoo! ticker SAN-PE, Google SAN-E) today. It's a replacement for PowerShares Financial Preferred Portfolio ETF (NYSEARCA:PGF). Moving to higher risk / higher reward.

    Disclosure: I am long PGF.

Additional disclosure: I am long SAN-PE. Positions can change any time.

I have traded the San-B shares and made a pile, probably should have held on to them as they are trading higher but still under $25. I was surprised you bought the SAN-E $2 more than the call price. Both of these preferred sport a Moody and S&P rating of less than investment grade but I figure that Santander is not going broke during my lifetime.

Author’s reply » Well, SAN-E trades over 27 for a long time and yield is still above 9%. No, I don't think Santander is going broke any time soon.
