2009 turned out to be the best market year since 2003. As with 2003, things looked pretty dicey through the early part of the year before sharply reversing to the upside.
I have no expectations that 2010 will duplicate the results of last year because 2009 started off from extremely oversold and absolutely cheap levels. It has become harder to find bargains in recent days.
That said, I am enjoying my 2009 accomplishments. My main margin-type account (where I trade all the ideas presented here) was up a staggering 141.64%. My unlevered IRA account was plus 45% with nothing but stocks and covered call writing. In a rising market the buy/write techniques are extremely powerful.
I hope all my readers had similar success and that we can continue making gains into this new year.
    Paul

    Thanks for the information, Paul.

What was your maximum draw down last year? If you were short puts last February, you must have had some rough times. Did you get any margin calls?

Author’s reply » No actual margin calls but I had to be nimble in dealing with the Jan - early March period.

2008 was my toughest year in more than 32 years of doing this. 2003 and 2009 turned out to be my best years.

Author’s reply » Thanks, it wasn't feeling too good early last March but the values were the most compelling I'd ever seen.

I've taken up the short naked put part of your style and did very well last year, not quite as well but I'll take up 100% anytime.

    Author’s reply » Anthony,

2011 was another very nice year. In fact, my IRA accounts now are well above their old 2007 highs even though the averages are nowhere close to where they were at that time.

My trading ideas are now published on OptionsProfits.com - a division of TheStreet.com's information empire.

I still put out investment related stories and occasional trading ideas on BeatingBuffett.com as well.

    Paul
