  • Preparing For The Upcoming Crash! 2 comments

It seems appropriate to post my thoughts before some important earnings are announced. As I read many crash related articles here on SA, I get concerned that maybe I need to review my portfolio and possibly build up some cash to pick up some bargains.

My earlier portfolio changes are already posted here, but I have to say that I'm most concerned with the purchases that I have made since January. So for the record, as of April 13th, here's how I've done:

    JP Morgan

    Dundee Intl.

    Total SA

Of course, it depends on which holdings are larger, but in this case they are all fairly significant and equally split. Overall, I'm down a little but so far it's less than 2% of my whole portfolio.

I did sell out of a couple of holding Corus (CJR.B) and Crescent Point (NYSE:CPG). You can see that I still like oil.

In addition to these major changes above, I picked up small amounts of these speculative plays. The total of these 3 stocks is less than any one of the above holdings, but I'm beginning to realize that there are many incorrectly priced stocks out there and I just have to understand their value. It helps that I follow author Value Digger and he points them out to me, but in the end, it's my decision which ones I pick and how much I'm willing to risk.

    Hawk Petroleum

Ultimately, I'm trying to filter out the noise and understand what risk I'm taking by leaving myself nearly 100% in the market. I have a very long term investing horizon and I'm not concerned about a 10 - 20% or even 30% drop. I survived the last crash where my holdings virtually evaporated, but they have all come back and then some. All the stocks that I acquired in the past 5 years have done very well, but then I suppose almost everyone did.

Sad to see you got hit by JPMorgan. But the good news is that Citigroup beat analyst's expectations, which makes me a feel a little better about things
