Here are links to a couple of good articles on the either imminent flu disaster or tempest in a teapot. Both are from links I published earlier and if you want to keep up with the developments are among the best sites I have found.
Bottom line is that at this point no one knows how this is going to shake out. There are encouraging signs and some that are a bit worrying. I've seen conflicting reports on cases and fatalities out of Mexico so there's a good chance that the authorities there are down playing things. I hope that's not the case here.
One fascinating piece in the blog post from Effect Measure comes via Bloomberg. Here it is:
The first case was seen in Mexico on April 13. The outbreak coincided with the President Barack Obama’s trip to Mexico City on April 16. Obama was received at Mexico’s anthropology museum in Mexico City by Felipe Solis, a distinguished archaeologist who died the following day from symptoms similar to flu, Reforma newspaper reported. The newspaper didn’t confirm if Solis had swine flu or not. (Thomas Black, Bloomberg)
I suspect that the President has been checked five ways from Sunday and given ever anti-viral agent known to man.
