First-Ever External Opal-Compliant self-encrypting Drive - Ships with Wave Software.
CMS Products, Inc. and Wave Systems (Nasdaq: WAVX) announced the availability of the first-ever external self-encrypting drive (SED) meeting the rigorous Opal drive standard. CMS's CE Secure DiskVault Wave Edition drives will ship with Wave's EMBASSY Trusted Drive Manager software for activating the drive's advanced security features.
"External SEDs are often used to store sensitive information, creating an even stronger need for industry-standard encryption. By encrypting the drive itself, customers can protect their data from intruders."
The Opal standard was created by the Trusted Computing Group to ensure interoperability across vendors, technologies and platforms. While traditional SEDs based on Opal have shipped for several years, this is the first time an external drive has ever earned the distinction.
