QuickLogic Corp. (QUIK) Announces First Pantech High Volume Production Order

QuickLogic Corp. announced that it has received its first “high volume production order” from Pantech Wireless, Inc., a global firm with U.S. offices in Atlanta, GA, but headquartered in S. Korea with other divisions in Japan, China, Mexico, and Italy. Pantech is a major phone instrument provider to Verizon (NYSE: VZ) and AT&T (NYSE: T), which would seem to bode well for QuickLogic.

According to QuickLogic’s press release, the production order is for its VEE and DPO technologies for the new Pantech Tablet Phone dual-core Snapdragon smartphone which has been released this month in South Korea. The release also noted that the company is the pioneer inventor of customizable semiconductor solutions for portable electronics OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) and ODMs (original design manufacturers). The release adds, “These silicon plus software solutions are called Customer Specific Standard Products (CSSPs). CSSPs enable our customers to bring their products to market more quickly and remain in the market longer, with the low power, cost and size demanded by the mobile and portable electronics market.”

The company uses its VEE (visual enhancement engine) technology to sharpen image quality for 5-inch WVGA screens and its DPO (display power optimizer) together to increase battery life about 25%. According to the company, this avoids visual ‘washout’ in many ambient light situations and gives tablet phone viewers an excellent view regardless of ambient lighting conditions. The company’s DPO is seen as especially advantageous to Pantech with its five-inch display and power-hungry 1.5Ghz dual-core processor.
Global sales and marketing VP Brian Faith stated, “OEMs and ODMs focused on improving the user experience are constantly looking for solutions to improve outdoor display visibility and extended battery life. We are very excited to announce our first smartphone production win with VEE and DPO alongside Pantech, and look forward to many more in the future.”

The company’s VEE technology is built around the iridix® core from Apical Limited to enhance LCD and OLED display viewability under challenging lighting conditions such as bright ambient light “by dynamically optimizing video characteristics to provide a natural viewing experience based on the human visual system,” says the company website. Versions of its VEE and DPO technologies are presently available with ArcticLink® II VX2 and VX4 platforms.
