  • Rogue Trends In Financial Markets 0 comments
Aug 25, 2012 3:24 PM | about stocks: GLD, USO, SPY

In my Weekend Update that went out Saturday morning I made the case for Trend Following as a two-part strategy. First, there are the day-to-day movements that generate short-term trading gains and losses. But there is another characteristic of trend models that I refer to as an intangible: assurance that when the time comes, that you are in the right place at the right time.....

The "right place at the right time" alludes to those few times every decade when fortunes are made or lost when prices in a market sector enters a massive, accelerating trend; taking no prisoners, while breaking all of the rules.

I used Gold, Oil and Equities as examples of markets that will on occasion go ballistic, UP or DOWN and at times, both UP and DOWN within the same decade. There are opportunities in those "rogue" trends, which for trend followers, are not really rogue at all.
