  • Updating Your Own Bio Pages & Improved Instablogging 4 comments
    May 24, 2009 11:23 AM

We are pleased to announce that contributing authors now have the ability to edit their own author page bios. This means that authors are no longer required to contact the Contributor Relations team when requesting changes to profile pages.

In addition, authors can now add hypertext links and html tags to their promotional sections ("Promote My Company", "Promote My Blog", "Promote My Book"). These features, however, will no longer be available in the "Edit Bio" section.  We ask all authors to please login to review how these changes may have affected existing bios and they should feel free to edit accordingly.

You may have also noticed that we have improved the useability of our instablogs and submission process.  Users should find it much easier to upload images, charts and tables. We will continue to implement your suggestions and enhance the instablogs feature even further in the near future.

Instablogs are blogs which are instantly set up and networked within the Seeking Alpha community. Instablog posts are not selected, edited or screened by Seeking Alpha editors, in contrast to contributors' articles.

I've been happy with most of the changes implemented at Seeking Alpha over the past year. It seems like things have been slowly improving more and more.

However, I am finding the new bio edit feature a bit annoying. I don't like that I've lost the ability to use hyperlinks, but I can live without it if need be. But surely, there must be a way to use spacing in our profiles. All my paragraphs are jumbled together now and I can't figure out how to unjumble them.

Author’s reply » Hi H.J., sorry for the frustration. First of all, you can use paragraph breaks by simply hitting the "enter" key. In fact I can see your paragraphs are spaced properly:

There is a small tech bug that makes it appear as if there are no spaces while in edit mode, but rest assured, they are there as you can see on your profile page. This problem should be fixed momentarily.

As for losing the ability to use hyperlinks, you didn't actually lose this ability, we simply MOVED these abilities to the "promote my company, blog, book" sections. A link to your company for instance would be better suited to your company section than the actual bio. Please let me know if you experience any other problems.

Hi, I attempted to link to my Twitter account using the 'Promote My Business' feature, but I no longer want to do this. Is there anyway to 'Unpromote My Business'...SA will not allow me to save my settings when I blank out all fields.

Thanks in advance for any insight you can provide.

Author’s reply » No problem David, all you need to do is edit this option within your settings (the link to "Settings" can be found on the toolbar that runs along the bottom of your screen. If you have any trouble, send me a direct message and I'll lead you through it.
