Lenovo declared on March 20 that it is purchasing a series of patent combinations of patent licensing company Unwired Planet. This trade is worth $100 million, and will be paid in cash.
Lenovo will get several mobile patents. Lenovo will purchase 21 patent combinations of Unwired Planet, including 3G and LTE and other important mobile patents. At the same time, Lenovo will get the authorization for several years of the patent combinations of Unwired Planet, designing mobile devices standard basic patent, implementation and application technology. The patent combination of Unwired Planet includes 2500 American and foreign patents that are already licensed or waiting to be licensed. Lenovo said that this trade helps Lenovo develop its smart phone and mobile PC Plus business. As a result of this news, the stock price of Unwired Planet increased by $0.87, a growth of 66.92%.
