  • An Outing at Kona Grill (NASDAQ: KONA)  0 comments
    May 26, 2010 3:58 PM | about stocks: KONA
At the market close yesterday a group of  7 from the World Market Media team scurried over to Kona Grill located in nearby City Place, West Palm Beach to celebrate two birthdays here at the office.

Kona Grill is an Asian themed restaurant that provides a wide variety of soups, salads, hot dishes as well as sushi.  The West Palm Beach location features both an indoor and outdoor dining experience as well as a fairly large bar with 5 beers on tap.  The restaurant also sports two gigantic fish tanks in the waiting area, which often entertain me on busy nights while I wait for a table.

In case you were not informed, Kona Grill has one of the best happy hours in town, with half priced drinks and deals like Saki and a 22 oz. Kirin Ichiban for just $8.00.  Happy Hour also encompasses food, featuring: avocado rolls, chicken tacos, chicken pot stickers, ahi tuna crisps, cheeseburger sliders, chicken and shrimp romaine wraps, fried calamari and sweet and spicy shrimp to name a few.

After ordering a round of drinks, we ordered the entire spread, one of everything on the happy hour food menu and were pleasantly surprised with the results.  The avocado rolls, Calamari, Pot Stickers and Sliders were all a hit at the table, and the first to be devoured.  I personally had a hand in finishing the Avocado rolls which feature a honey cilantro dipping sauce; they remain my favorite item on the menu after about 6 or 7 visits.

Our bill totaled roughly $150, which split between 7 individuals amounts to a mere $22.00 per person.  Kona Grill's menu presents great value, offering a wide selection and fair pricing.  Upon listening to Kona grill's last quarterly conference call, it was evident that KONA is focusing on same store sales and ticket pricing.  After dining there with a few co-workers it is evident that some of us will be making it a habit to stop in at Kona a few times a week to enjoy happy hour after a day of work.

Kona Grill Inc.(NASDAQ: KONA) is currently trading at $4.13 up .20 or 5% on very thin volume.  The stock has increased from the low $3.00 range, peaking at $5.33 in late April of 2010.  KONA is also featured in our Nano Cap Index

Although the West Palm Beach location will most likely slow due to seasonality of this area, I would expect to see the restaurant industry as a whole to begin crawling back as consumers increase spending little by little over the next year.
