Food costs continue to soar with food costs up 1.5% this past month. If these costs continue each and every month or, god help us, begin to accelerate, food costs will begin to be an impossible part of consumers monthly bills. Is inflation finally coming home to roost or are we about to enter stagflation. Since our wonderful congress continues to think that assigning additional tasks to the bridge makers and road crews is creating jobs, I expect unemployment to remain very high for a considerably long period of time.
In anticipation of what I expect to be stagflation I decided it was time to come up with some real solutions for feeding ourselves if such an event actually comes about. Mind you this is for "Only just in case" scenarios.
First I suggest everyone purchase a copy of the following cookbook before supplies run out.
The next item that most of you may wish to purchase is a grill guard for your vehicle. No longer will hitting a deer be a bad thing unless of course the critter gets away. Smaller critters can be bagged with your vehicle tires or underside of your vehicle with out damaging your vehicles front end. Practice, practice, practice.
One can only hope that these ideas will assist all of us in acquiring food for the table and the recipes for the proper preparation of said food during tough economic times.
Disclosure: This article is tongue and cheek. Unless things get really bad then there is a recipe for tongue in the book and quite possibly cheek meat too!!!!

You're a resourceful Marine, DG. Probably can catch fish with your bare hands. While no one ever went wrong with a new grill guard, I'm thinking more along the lines of this: seekingalpha.com/artic...
DG, you just HAVE to start reading John Ringo (if you can tolerate military sf at all). I think you would really like his stuff. baen.com, you can sample some of his books for free, just hit the "library" button. Baen also has lots of similar authors, like David Weber...
BTW, if you DID create a roadkill etf, someone would invest money in it.
Triple I checked out your book site and "Fangs for the Mammaries" intrigued me very much. They had a free sample but nothing happened when I kept licking it.
I've some follow-on thoughts about things that should also be considered.
If it gets that bad, I doubt the grill guards will be useful - no fuel for the vehicles. Roads will be in a high state of disrepair making it difficult to get up enough speed to hit a TB crossing the road, much less a fleet-footed deer.
I suggest instead that Doubleguns open a hunting school teaching the stealth skills of a sniper and the use of various tools that can be constructed from natural resources. Growing hemp will provide a high-quality fiber useful for making netting, ropes, snares of various types.
It has the additional quality of being banned by the idiots of the government and so provides an additional benefit of symbolically flipping them the finger.
Additional courses in water purification, craft in use of basic materials to construct pots, pans. It would be nice to have electricity. For this we should be able to "appropriate" (a fine long-standing military tradition) some CPST micro-turbines jetted for gaseous fuels. With our anticipated diet there should be lots of "natural gas" available. Of course we will need to develop skills to construct apparatus to capture the gas. I leave it to your imagination for a visual representation of this.
There's much more of course. But a long career in this should come about. And with the relationship with medical facilities, the results of all these efforts on the students can be attended as well.
Guns: Brilliant! Great stuff. I'm ordering my bro-in-law the Road Kill book.
Your first "on the road again" for hire should be my pal, Gary The One-armed Armenian Pizza Delivery Guy. He's potted 17 deer! With just one arm! Doesn't even stop anymore.
Gary just bought a new car, and when he showed it to me and some other pals, I brought up the dark idea of an over/under about when the car would tackle its first deer.
I highly recommend Gary to be an educational driver in the "right wing" of the National Roadkill Survivor School. He's really good at this highly skilled and specialized kind of hunting.

How would you like your t-bone or filet of MOO cooked?
BTW, if you DID create a roadkill etf, someone would invest money in it.
However, this sort of hobby can be oddly addictive...

I hear deer really like pizza, too!
I think he would be better served by a pistol than an over/under however having only one arm.
Good To Read Some "Adapt And Over Come" Attitude.
Rock On DG !!!
"Wack for Snacks" as a culinary clever.
