  • Shift In Earth's Position During Summer Means More Cluster Headaches For Headache Sufferers 0 comments

The start of summer signals a jolly string of barbeque cook-offs and days spent frolicking at the beach for most Americans, but for nearly 1 million Americans suffering from cluster headaches, it also means the beginning of a debilitating period for them. According to a report on Science Daily, the earth's position is to blame for the headaches, as the earth changes position and moves closer to the sun.

The human biological rhythm is tied into earth's rotation, making individuals who suffer from cluster headaches encounter unrelenting head pain," the report said.

Also known as suicide headaches, cluster headaches are so severe that sufferers "feel at the end of their rope," noted Brian M. Grosberg, M.D., director of the Montefiore Headache Center in the same report.

"It is one of the most painful conditions a person can experience, even more incapacitating than a migraine. When patients come in with a cluster headache, they often share how it impacts their personal and professional lives and how the sensation is so severe, they feel at the end of their rope," he added.

MedlinePlus defines cluster headache as a type of headache characterized by pain on one side of the head. The frequency of cluster headache varies for each person, but typically lasts from a week to a year. Each cluster headache occurs with pain-free intervals of one month or more.

Grosberg said that symptoms involve "severe pain behind or around one's eye" as well as teary eyes and nasal congestion.

Men suffer cluster headaches four times more than women, Science Daily reported.

One first line of defense most people can use against cluster headaches is usingThermal-Aid cooling packs. Thermal-Aid, a division of Pacific Shore Holdings Inc. (PSHR) engaged in the manufacture and distribution of household and personal care products, offers a wide variety of headache treatment packs, from sectionals to stuffed animal products for children.

Thermal-Aid's cooling packs effectively soothe pain in your neck and forehead area, as well as relieve eye pressure. To use, the packs have to be placed inside a freezer for six hours then placed on the treatment site.

Thermal-Aid's therapeutic packs were born out of two years of research and development between the company and medical experts examining the positive benefits of "prolonged heating and cooling to both humans and animals," the company said on its website.

The company also offers a "Headache Relief System" involving the use of a clinically proven all-natural headache treatment cream that cools and soothes headaches in an instant.

According to The Migraine Trust, breathing oxygen for a span of 15 to 20 minutes, and taking triptans are two of the fastest and quickest ways to treat cluster headaches.

To manage and prevent migraines and headaches, Health Central recommends regular exercise, staying hydrated, and getting adequate sleep.
