    Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin was overwhelmingly elected to a third term as president on Sunday, March 4, winning more than 63% of the vote. Below, we list five key points emerging from the election, and its run-up since last December's parliamentary election. We explore each of these points in more detail in Business Monitor Online:

    Political risk premium is justified in the very short term: Amid suggestions that the election was skewed in Putin's favour, we would caution that a less tolerant response from the authorities (now that the elections are over) may inflame the situation and keep the risk premium for Russian assets (which trade at a discount) elevated for some time to come.
