Healthcare insurers get upper hand (LA Times) Lashed by liberals and threatened with more government regulation, the insurance industry nevertheless rallied its lobbying and grass-roots resources so successfully in the early stages of the healthcare overhaul deliberations that it is poised to reap a financial windfall. “It’s a bonanza,” said Robert Laszewski, a health insurance executive for 20 years who now tracks reform legislation as president of the consulting firm Health Policy and Strategy Associates Inc.

L4D: I apologize for asking you questions that have nothing to do with your post!
I would like your opinion of MO, and the latest lawsuit that MO lost and if you think it impacts MO going forward. (It was a big one, but will probably be in appeals for years to come). Do you think that MO is going to raise their dividend, and do you think ( sin stock notwithstanding) that it has growth potential?
It is one of my core holdings, but I'm not sure it can continue to grow given the taxes being heaped on cigarette purchases by the states, since they are losing so much revenue. Do you have an opinion on this? I very stupidly sold PMI when they split off. Well, thanks for reading this and if you care to comment it is much appreciated.

Thank you. I think I mixed you up with dividends 4 life! I kept my MO. The dividends are sweet and the opportunity to sell calls made me an extra 10% (so far this year).

Author’s reply » No problem OG, ignore G&D. Superficially, I think MO is a fine stock: I haven't done a CFA-type analysis on it, but I have looked at it.

    1. Pays a nice dividend
    2. Sells a product that kills people, yet they keep buying it.
    3. Seems recession proof.

Only thing I don't like about MO is there debt level.
