Ebay is announcing after the bell today that it may IPO Skype in the first half of next year, recognizing that it doesn't fit well with Ebay and Paypal. Skype founders had been raising capital in an attempt to buy back the company at a big discount to what it sold the company for in 2005, but to be successful they'll likely need to raise their bid from approx $1 billion. In the press release Ebay said it expects Skype to generate about $1 billion in revenue by 2011. This would certainly be the biggest IPO next year if it comes to fruition.
