  • Douche Bag Of The Year Award 96 comments
    Nov 23, 2009 6:38 PM
    Congratulations all!

We've all made it through the year, so far, and the douche bags haven't taken us down yet. And that's no easy feat. This year has seen a bumper crop of candidates for the coveted DB 09 award.

To qualify for DB 09, candidates must demonstrate a general contempt for their fellow man. And, because of his, or her, misanthropic tendencies,  countless decent people are caused to suffer directly or indirectly through their actions.

Past winners of this prestigious award include Robert Rubin for tirelessly campaigning to end Glass Steagal banking regulations. And, then again raking in over $100,000,000 for serving as Vice Chairman Of CitiCorp, as a payoff.

Rubin, the only two time winner, is a shining example for all of the future DB contestants. He represents the highest level of douchedom for his relentless pursuit of personal reward at the expense of the rest of humanity. Bob, put down that solid gold putter for a second and take a bow.

    This years candidates include:

    George Soros

Mr. Soros worked tirelessly to become owner operator of the Democratic Party.

Thanks to George's work, we now have the most Marxist President and Congress in the history of the country. Were it not for the ridiculously expensive programs that his party has slam dunked through congress in their first year of control, his foreign investments and massive bets against the dollar would not have made him richer yet. So George, stand up from your platinum toilet, show the world your genuine Mink toilet paper, and take a bow.

    Warren Buffet

Mr Buffet is nominated for pretty much the same reasons as Mr. Soros, only Mr. Buffet is a folksier version and relieves himself in a modest palladium toilet and wipes his hiney with 100% American made $100 bills. Stop being so gosh darn folksy for a minute Warren and take a bow for shoving this great ship of state down river to a fiery lake of hell. Hope that loan to Goldman Sachs is working out for you. No government help there with that AIG money, huh Warren? I know, ah shucks. BTW, isn't that Burlington Northern deal with stock and borrowed money just a bet on a collapsing dollar?

    Janet Napolitano

Ms. Napolitano, before hardly squeezing her ass into her recliner at Homeland Security, declared that military veterans and Ron Paul supporters should be profiled by police agencies as potential terrorists.

Now you haven't taken out any actual terrorists, Fort Hood, but you have taken out the constitution and pooped on it just a little.

    Good luck Janet!

If you would like to nominate a candidate for DB 09, leave your comment here and I will tally the thumbs up and down for each entry on New Years Eve.

This is a big responsibility. Let's make sure we get it right!

My motto is, No Douche Bag Left Behind.

I can't help but think that President Obama should be on this list. He has pushed through two of the largest and deepest goody bags of legislation in our history. With the remnant of the TARP funds and the mostly unspent stimulus money, he has provisioned himself with more potential vote-getting potential than any other president ever. He can hand out $100 million state aid to any Senator or Representative who sits on the fence for as many bills as he wants to get passed. How do you think Health Care is getting its support? At $100 million per vote and with hundreds of billions to spend, he can get any agenda through Congress.

And you thought the stimulus bill was to create jobs!

I nominate Ben Bernanke for keeping the printing presses rolling, for deflating the dollar, loaning his bankster buddies bundles of bucks (try saying that three times really fast) with which to prop up the stock market and pay themselves huge bonuses, for being complicit in the scheme of slipping his bankster buddies even more cash through the bail out of AIG (wasn't that slick!), for buying up a $Trillion or more of bad mortgages and propping up Fannie and Freddie and then holding all those government owned houses off the market to give us a false sense of resurgence, and for being, generally, such an idiotic "twit" who calls himself an "economist" (no one has told him the two words are synonyms).

Swash, YH, Bern: I have to rescind my vote for smörgåsbord, French accent... please, Buffet. He's smart. he's dining on everything.

He's only playing the game given to him. So, Hoard, discount my thumbs up.

We have a whole month to decide this. We have that North Korea moron, that Iran moron, that Venezuelan moron, that Honduran moron, we have so many morons within the US making decisions that I need more time to figure out who really is the greater moron, okay, as in, Douche Bag EVERYBODY IN CHARGE IS A MORON.

I have to reconsider, there are so many names, I'm quite frazzled as to with which to pick. The darn deck has more cards than the darn deck.

I will pre-submit that my fearless forecast for the 2010 award is Putin. Russia has more time zones than any other country; it's then time for Russia to assert herself, to mess with every country, because they have a huge amount of minerals, commodities will grow, and it's just time to mess, for no other reason than to mess. Commodities is/are the way it's going. So, I will pre-nominate Putin, small as the 2010 moron, moron, moron, who else will be a moron will just may be.

Fuuny thing is, Palin ain't far from Putin.

Scrooge---I had briefly considered checking with Hoard about modifying it to be some sort of co-winner award, but then thought that might water it down too much, or at least, lessen the validity of coming in first in a cast of scum.

I nominate Larry Summers because he is the 'brains' behind our current administration's brainless economic policy.

Make no mistake, Geithner doesn't go to the bathroom without approval from Larry Summers.

When Paul Volcker tries to inject some sense into the discussion, it is Larry Summers who shoots him down with withering economic sophistry.

BO has trusted Summers completely and the result is a jobless, Wall Street-only recovery fashioned out of the debts of our grandchildren.

I submit that it is Larry Summers who rightfully deserves to be this year's Douche Bag of the Year.

    Thank you for your support.

But, I consider Him to be the Puppet. He dances as the strings are pulled.
So the vote has to be for those Pulling the Strings.

We know Summers is one for sure, but there are others.

Will Obama increase Afghan troops, you betcha. Got to keep as many as you can on Foreign Soil. Don't want them at Home.

But seriously (sorta), BO is truly the right pick in my book, because he is either so naive he deserves the douche bag award (with diamond inserts) for being so naive AND yet getting elected president, or because he is actually not naive, in which case he is pure evil.

Hmmm... come to think of it, maybe all those deluded Americans who voted for BO should get the douche bag award for douche-baggiest group act for not waking up from their liberal torpor long enough to realize they collectively flushed this country down the toilet (platinum, palladium, marble, chrome, or just plain old white porcelin), forgot to wipe their asses, and are now walking around with toilet paper stuck to both shoes, blissfully unaware, and smelling like sh*te.

I did not know any other way to get you this information.

I think this is news worthy and has great relevance to your moniker. Spread the word about what is fact, downplay the speculation. News is "Sketchy" at this point.

Fact => in October 2009 China discovered 4 of the 400oz gold bars it purchased were "Gold Plated Tungsten" or "Salted Gold". The extent of the Fraud is unknown. This is an inside job at the highest level.

Speculation => Clinton Administration decided to "Create More Gold Bars" from the existing Fort Knox stash.

Great idea, YH, and some great comments to boot.

But it's a bit of a tragicomedy for me. I'm torn between laughing and throwing up. Probably not too good a combination heading into Thanksgiving. But I suppose that's the price I pay for following this link, wondering how Seeking Alpha came up with a title for this article (yeah, I know now they didn't). I shouldn't complain, though, as it was worth the read, and rehashing what some of these douches have done is certainly a small price to pay compared to what our founding fathers endured.

But I can't bring myself to choose the worst of the worst. There are just too many to choose from. I'll be content to settle for the majority opinion.

So many DBs, so little time.

Bernanke, Paulson, and Geithner are the three blind mice. All three shamelessly take from savers and give to idiots.

Greenspan would go in the above group other than the fact that he willingly let people call him "maestro". That earns him a human-turd award. Pride goeth before the fall.

The guys from the rating agencies who monetized the integrity of the organization for their own personal gain.

Buffett (who I normally like), Immelt, Lloyd B, Jamie Dimon, John Mack, and all of the so-called businessmen who have shamelessly lined up to take the aforementioned welfare. Where is the dignity? We should make the lot of them wait in line at health and human services like every other welfare beneficiary.

Let's not forget the people who ran Lehman, Bear, AIG, Citi and the like who ran their companies into the ground, while aspiring to be in the group above.

The guy who Countrywide, Stanford, and Madoff and all of the people who are now keeping that worthless bags of crap out of prison.

Pelosi, Reid, Barney Frank, Chris Dodd and all of the other policians who made 2008 possible.

The entire Republican party for making Pelosi, Reid, Frank, and Dodd possible.

I realize I already nominated someone but I would like to give a 'dishonorable mention' to whoever the douchebag is that went through here and gave every single comment a thumbs-down.

Who does that? A real douchebag, that's who.

Agreed, the process needs categories, like any good dog show. DBOY awards for the lesser categories, toy DBOYs, working DBOYs, terriers, etc. Once those are settled, go for the enchilada, the Best In Show DBOY.

We could contact the Darwin Award folks and hold a joint ceremony.

Lifetime Achievement DBOY? Good idea. Some of these folks work longer and harder to underachieve, and some even die before we have a chance to notice them (Saul Alinsky, Lifetime DBOY if there ever was one).

I doubt he rates a win this year or any other, but Hugo Chavez would fit in there very comfortably.

In the category of irritating TV pitchmen, I nominate the UPS guy. Smug, smarmy, I think he loves himself deeply.

I have this twisted image of him laying on top of a full length mirror licking his reflection.

I nominate Christopher Cox and his laissez-faire SEC as an entire organization of Douche Bags of the year.

As the enforcement branch of the government regulations on Corporate America. They're deaf, dumb, and blind.

A $ 40B Ponzi scheme or two, everyone's 401(k) turning into more like a 4.01(k), massive naked shorting of financial institutions.

Read the comments from Judge Rakoff in the SEC vs Bank of America. Even when they prosecute, they further penalize the victims in the case.

Forget about these guys protecting us from Wall Street. These cops are from Keystone!

    Yellowhoard,
No, number of reports isn't the driving factor in why a comment gets deleted. Read terms of use to see why - bad language, rudeness to individuals, namecalling.... And we allow more leeway on instablogs (this title would not be allowed on the main site, for example). There are also some technical reasons that trigger our automatic comments filters - publishing the identical comment on multiple articles, including links that are identified as spam, e.g.

All I can figure is that they were unkind to our president and Warren Buffet.

There was no use of vulgar language.
    There was no name calling.
And I don't think that listing a bunch of true statements could be called rudeness.

Well, I used his middle initial. LOL.

That's considered a PC infraction in some quarters. "BHO" vs "BO"...

OK, if scatalogical references are to be avoided, I would have to insist that "BHO" is a less unfortunate acronym vs "BO" any day.

Lest this degenerate into some sidestepping into a racism charge, I am roughly 5 times more a minority (by genetics) than BHO, who is 93+% Caucasian, whereas I am just 62.5%.

Also, I make it a common practice to use the full initials of Presidents.

    LBJ, JFK, BHO...

Author’s reply » OK, I've changed my mind.

I am withdrawing my nomination of George "Dr. Evil" Soros, and am now nominating Barack Hussein Obama for Douche Bag of the year.

In spite of his solid abs and sweet jump shot, I've decided that President Obama is the most prominent douche bag in America and, maybe, the world.

His mom and dad met in 1960 at a Russian language class in Hawaii.
Mom and dad were both Marxists.
When dad #1 left mom for greener fields, dad #2 moved in and registered young Barry in the best Muslim schools.
When dad #2 skipped out, mom left young Barry with grandma and grandpa, who both happened to be Marxists.
His new surrogate dad was a Black Panther, also a Marxist.
According to his book, he chose to hang out with Marxists in college and liked the Marxist professors the best. I cannot dispute any of his own words about his college years because there is nobody from Columbia University that seems to remember him ever being there, other than a couple Marxist professors.
After leaving Columbia University he traveled the world with his Muslim/Marxist buddies with a special emphasis on Pakistan and Kenya.
During this time, he changed his name to Barrack Hussein Obama, a Muslim name because Hussein is the name of one of the prophet Mohamed's sons.
After this tour of the world with his Marxist friends, someone mysteriously provided funding for Harvard law where he went on to be the President of Harvard Law Review where he never penned an article.
He claims that he graduated Magna Cum Laude, but there is no proof of this.
After Harvard Law, BHO moved to be a community organizer where one of his mentors was a reverend Wright who advocated Black Liberation Theology, a Marxist movement.
His wife Michelle's Princeton thesis was also about the Black Liberation movement.
As President of the United States he has appointed Marxists to high level positions in the White House. Van Jones is a self proclaimed Marxist and was let go as Green Jobs Czar after Glenn Beck exposed him.
His spokesperson Anita Dunn said in a commencement address that Chairman Mao, who killed 70 million people, is one of the two people that she turns to the most for guidance.
In a couple weeks, President Obama will go to Copenhagen to sign a treaty that will commit 1% of our GDP to an unelected global governing body.

So, President Obama, stop playing with that hard earned Nobel Peace prize and take a bow for an award that you truly do deserve.

You are my nominee for Douche Bag 09!

Back to the topic, it is obvious that SEIU deserves a DBOY of some flavor.

As for their name while performing their new function within the New Order, perhaps tapping their historical annecedents would be possible:

The Ruhrungshauptamt, taken from that fine, upstanding group that performed the same function for the Waffen SS: The "Guidance Principal Office".

I wonder if they know how to march?

DBOY for a group/association: Acorn is tempting, but SEIU purple shirts win with their marching at TeaBagParty protests around the country. I interviewed a couple of them (posing as a journalist...yes, it was fun). I'm sure I broke some laws here in the land of the free.

DBOY Female: I nominate Pelosi for taking point on trying to write the biggest check in the history of the world while everyone's going broke and the nation already has an unpayable mound of debt.

DBOY Male: Geithner is more of a slow little brother, so I nominate Ben (it should be his second year in a row). Just watch any YouTube where he's questioned by Ron Paul and you'll see why. The guy either doesn't know what he's talking about or he fully knows the lies he's spreading. Either is worthy.

Are nominations still open? I know he's a dark horse candidate, but I'd like to nominate Elliot Spitzer. He spent years as a prosecutor "upholding the law" by, among other things, prosecuting prostitutes. Then as his fortunes grew, so did his sanctimoniousness. And of all the hypocrites we know who make their living off the public teat, rarely do we get such poetic proof of the underlying hypocrisy as when he got busted for regular hookups with a prostitute. Now, don't get me wrong. While I am not a fan of prostitution, the libertarian in me says its really none of my business. It's not that he saw a prostitute... it's that he spent so many years putting them in jail first.

Well I guess it was 2008 (time flies) but he resurfaced in 2009. Once a douchebag always a douchebag. But I guess you're right he's not a good candidate for DB o' the year.

They say he's still considering a Senate run. I say, why not. He'll fit right in.

After much consternation and wafflelyness about who is the number one douche bag of the year, I now herewith formally nominate Bob, or rather Rob "America" Rubin.

This clown was the behind the scene douche bag that convinced good ole boy Bill Clinton to repeal the Glass Steagle Act, perhaps the number one, single and most fervent and facet act of duplicity to why the entire world's economy almost blew up.

Then this empowered, egomaniac moron went on to advise Citibank to put trillions into residential and commercial CDEs and CDSs, costing us taxpayers trillions, if not more, all while banking millions along the way. This Wall Street and DC egomaniac hustler has somehow magically incorporated his legion, his posse, to now sit on high, key important benches within the Obama administration. Not just a few, lots of them.

Several times I have written "Obama" and "puppet" within the same sentence. What I had a notion of, and now confirmed, is that there actually is a more powerful (evil) person above our president. This Rubin guy is a self imposed first class manipulating loser monster that is ruining our country's future with so many bullshit socialistic philosophies and fascist policies that I'm now convinced that there is no present greater danger to our country than to have this man clad, cloved and cleaved with eroneous and malevolent power to continue on with his ways. He's the man nobody knows that I would love to sit down and play poker with. Simply put, Rubin is clueless about simple math, and a complete dolt about complex math. He's the man that's more responsible for our country's economic fiasco than anyone else.

Rob Rubin is my unequivical, unequaled and categorical choice for Douche Bag of the Year.

The obvious cause may not be the correct one, or it may.

If you go th YH's comments and look through his early comments, maybe the one you noted is still there.

Hint: use your browsers search facility to speed things up (Control-F in my FF browser).

YH, after the would-be bomber was apprehended on that flight this weekend, Napolitano came out with her usual rubbish. It's a good thing the traveling public is willing to take matters in their own hands!
Now they are thinking about restricting people from using the bathroom the last hour of a flight as a security measure.
I've never heard a dumber suggestion.
    Janet's earned a solid F for her F-ferts.

O,G: Greetings. That truly is a dumb idea so is the suggestion about banning paper back books. I'm sure that the ideas will get progressively dumber until the dumbest one of all is found. That one will be implemented at once. Can I nominate team Obama in it's entirety?

I'm sticking with Rob Rubin as my final vote.

But this douche bag comes in a close second (some of you may have already read this one):

A guy comes into the Phillies office to apply for a job. He fills out an application for employment and the interview commences; on the desk before him lay three Phillies World Series rings. The interviewer gets called away. The applicant pockets the rings and walks out, forgetting to grab his application.

I don't envy YH judging this. There are simply too many categories and people for the DB of the year. Maybe it would have been easier to go the other route-honorable people doing the right thing in public life- then YH could be a modern day Diogenes and we could give him a flashlight (update of the proverbial lantern...)

I am trying to understand your position on Obama. For the most part, people posting here seem to have some agreement of opinion on him. It seems you dislike him because he bailed out wealthy bankers, but at the same time you say he is Marxist and redistributing money to the poor. Unless I am missing something, aren't these two actions at odds politically? Obviously he has done both to some degree, but so has nearly every other politician ever to exist and for good reason.

Also, I see people continually mention TARP and the bailout as if it originated under Obama's office. It simply did not. This started in 2008 with Bush and Paulson.

Is Obama a savior? No. Did he deserve the Noble Peace Prize? I certainly think not. But is he the biggest douche of the year? I think it's pretty easy to come up with much bigger douches. Madoff comes to mind. And if you consider Bin Laden to be in the running at all, it's pretty sad that you consider the U.S. President to be in the same category.

I'm all for freedom of speech. I just think it's scary that we have so many people with such extremist points of view. Points of view that are seemingly out of touch with reality and/or common sense. We have enough of those nut jobs to deal with. Let's not become that.

Truly you are a blind sheep of the douchebag king god of earth. Giving the tax dollars to the banks and redistributing wealth as a Marxist are one and the same. The tax stolen from mainly lower and middle class is what gets redistributed to the banks that turn around and borrow from the tax payers (the Fed) at 0%-0.25% and turn around and lend it back to the tax payers at anywhere from 5% for good home loan rate(whatever) to over 29% on credit cards. So tell me how anyone in government is not deserving of the DB award and most of all their ringleader and Marxaoist master, Obama. I know this is a late reply to ds342 but sometimes the idiots need guidance because they are idiots and just maybe don't want to be an idiot anymore.

Lighten up, DS 342. Obviously a spokesman like Billy Mays doesn't fall into the same category as Osama Bin Laden. This is just a means to vent. If you want to discuss where we are politically, and how both the republicans and democrats put us here, there are plenty of places on SA to do that, but that isn't why this insta was put up. We're equal opportunity labelists, and the label is Douche Bag. Get it?

Okay here is my DB candidate:
Lloyd Blankfein. Since he sits on the right side of "The Man" and portends to do "His" work, which is to rob as much money as possible with both hands before the bell rings!
