Supervalu stock has plunged as of late. Analysts are blaming the competition from Walmart. Can't blame Walmart for this. Supervalu is the primary supplier for 1900 or so stores they don't own. A secondary supplier for another 400 or so stores they don't own. Caputos is a small chain here in Chicagoland with a location at 100 S. Randal Rd in Algonquin Il. They are listed as an IGA(Independent Grocers Alliance) store. IGA lists Supervalu as a supplier. Supervalu owns a Jewel at 103 S. Randal Rd. in Algonquin. So Supervalu is supplying the competition product right across the street fighting for the same market share. And I'm sure if you looked this is happening all over. Supervalu owned stores fighting for a place in the market with stores Supervalu doesn't own but supplies product to. Can you say "conflict of interest"?
Disclosure: I am long SVU.
