  • Kodiak Oil - Barchart's Chart Of The Day 3 comments
    Jul 24, 2014 3:06 PM | about stocks: KOG

The Chart of the Day belong to Kodiak Oil (NYSE:KOG). I found the stick by sorting today's New High List for new high frequency in the last month then used the Flipchart feature to review the stocks. Since the Trend Spotter signaled a buy on 6/6 the stock gained 22.32%,

KOG is an independent energy exploration and development company. It is focused on exploring, developing and producing oil and natural gas primarily in the Williston Basin in the U.S. Rocky Mountains. Kodiak Oil & Gas Corp. is headquartered in Denver, Colorado.

Why highlight a stock for a company that already announced it is being acquired (by WLL)? Other than the arbitrage potential or another bidder emerging, there doesn't seem to a very high likelihood that its recent technical pattern will continue.

Raw - Could you be underestimating the growth WLL is experiencing and the upcoming earnings report?

The author's comment was on a technical pattern, not fundamentals. KOG's technical pattern was largely due to its one time acquisition by WLL. Going forward, looking for several months of relative stagnation due to pendency of merger, then it will be WLL's technical (and fundamentals) that will control. Bakken evolving from expansion to efficiency of drilling/operations as key drivers ... imo.
