  • American Trade Protectionism Rising. 3 comments

President Obama imposed punitive tariffs Friday, against the import of all car and light truck tires coming from China.
Many of the United States trading partners say that the Americans talk tough against protectionism only when it's own industries are not threatened.

As reported in China View News http://www.chinaview.cn

"The American government has to draw a lesson from the Great Depression when it [USA] imposed heavy import tariffs, a move that triggered a global trade war and exacerbated the crises."

Isn't this a little like 'biting the hand that feeds you'? Or is it more in the realm of poking the 'Dragon' with a pointed stick? This could very well escalate and get out of hand, in which case the US would come out the worse for it when China holds all the key cards.

Obama administration does not give a sh*t about American national interests but it does care about union votes and anything else that keeps them in power.

Marxism and fraud were always very close friends and associates.

Republicanism and fraud were always very close friends and associates as well it seems. Globalism was a fraud also -- good and bad. Protectionism will also be good and bad. If you look at the cycles of history, even simply American history, you will see that making money is not the ONLY function of history. During summer the plant grows; during autumn we harvest the crop. That leaves Winter for resting; spring for planting. Globalism is gone. The crop has been harvested.

Author’s reply » Since I wrote this little missive we are now seeing the beginnings of the retaliation by other countries. It will be VERY interesting to see the results of this weekends meeting of the G20 as it pertains to this subject. This is FAR from being resolved. It seems that NO lessons were learned from global governmental actions that took place during the Great Depression. Protectionism is alive and thriving in today's economic climate. Stay tuned!
