  • Apple's Touch and Tap Revolution!!! 0 comments

Apple (AAPL) is flaring up a whole lot of attention lately. After all, it’s market cap is on the brink of surpassing Microsoft (MSFT), it successfully launched the highly anticipated ipad, and it’s sparking the attention of the US Justice Department with the latest complaint by Adobe (ADBE). The growth of Apple the past couple of years is far beyond what many ever conceived remotely possible given Apple already has the third largest market cap--the question is why?

Many are attributing this to the rise of the mobile economy or Moore’s law allowing for an explosion of computing devices penetrating the market. I agree with these and many other reasons for it’s growth, but at the core lies something more subtle, a technology that has been around, but hasn’t burgeoned into game changer. Now it is completely rearranging the way we think, interact and communicate in the modern world. Essentially we are moving from the world of point and click to the world of touch and tap.

With the ipod touch, the iphone, now the ipad. There are soon to be hundreds of millions of devices on an operating system with hudreds of thousands of apps all geared to the touch and tap interface... and Apple controls it all. This more efficient way of manipulating objects on a screen, even in it’s nascent stages, is showing itself to be a more user friendly system, that will increase our productivity and transform the web as it we know.

And what will this new interaction interface bring? The mouse will become a thing of the past. Why use your fingers to manipulate a tiny object on the screen when you can use your fingers to touch the screen itself? Everything has to be rewritten. It just doesn’t make sense anymore to point and click.  Touch and tap is far more superior.

By denying Adobe access to it’s products, it’s forcing the industry at large to recognize this change.  The PC monitor as we know it will go away. As already the netbook market is deteriorating. The PC will be a touch screen with a keyboard attached… and no mouse. Your television will have a touch remote… probably your ipod touch or ipad, that you can use to surf through content. And if you’d like, you can walk right up to the now-known-as television screen and touch and tap your way through the latest media.

    Long on Apple.

    Disclosure: Long Apple
