China Hog & Pork Industry Development Situation In 2012

CRI Report: By December 2012, the export volume of live pigs in China was 1.65 million heads, increasing by 5.77% YOY (1.56 million heads in 2011). The export value was USD 460.564 million, increasing by 1.88% YOY (USD 452.047 million in 2011). From January to August in 2012, the national inventory volume of reproductive sow in China remained stable and fluctuated around 49.5 million heads. Since September, the volume increased significantly and reached 50.63 million heads with the growth rate of 2.1%. However, the volume decreased in November and slightly increased in December. In 2012, the pig slaughtering volume reached the highest in January (20.142 million heads). However, the volume decreased sharply since February (only 14.733 million heads), decreasing by 26.9% MOM. Then the volume increased to 17.831 million heads in March and remained stable in the next few months. The pig slaughtering volume of every month in 2012 increased YOY, except that of January.
