CGTS: VIX, UUP Charts Suggest More Near-Term Losses for Stocks

There is bad news for stocks if we trust two traditional anti-stock indicators. The VIX (put option-buying volatility index) and the UUP, Bullish US Dollar ETF, both have put in successful bottoms -- and both have established bullish higher lows and higher highs -- and seem to be heading higher.

THE VIX is widely recognized as being anti-stock indicator. The US Dollar is not perpetually anti-stock in its behavior -- but it has been recently, in fact since 2001. There was a period in 1990-2001 when stocks and the US Dollar both rose together. Historically, the Dollar has been a safe place to put asset when riskier assets were not sufficiently seductive to investors.
