  • Molecular Diagnostic Stocks Outperform Up 15%+ In 2014  1 comment
Jan 20, 2014 7:04 PM | about stocks: NSTG, ILMN, RGDX

2014 J.P. Morgan Conference Update #5-Rayno Diagnostics and Tools Portfolio

Performance among Clinical Diagnostics and Tools stocks was strong with many stocks beating the sector indices (NASDAQ:IBB) which were up 10-15%. Stock performance in 2014 will be more dependent on earnings and guidance although there is considerable sentiment carry-over from biotechnology and healthcare macro trends. Biopharmaceutical stocks are driven more by pipeline, clinical data and deal activity.

Review the chart below and the last two columns give 2014 YTD performance. Columns three and four give original dates and prices of recommendations.

Response Genetics (NASDAQ:RGDX) was up 42% but this is a volatile small cap stock, as is VRML up 19.5%.

Illumina (NASDAQ:ILMN) was up 23.3% . Sequencing is a major tool for molecular medicine.

Exact Sciences (NASDAQ:EXAS) was up 21.8 % anticipating Q2 2014 approval of their DNA colon cancer test.

NanoString (NASDAQ:NSTG) was up 14.8% and was a new pick at $12 in November.
