Blackthorn Resources (ASX: BTR) has appointed Ravi Underwood as its chief financial officer replacing Chris Brown who will continue as the company secretary.

He has worked with Normandy Mining, SinoGold and mining services company Mine Site Technologies, all which have major mining projects and operations both in Australia and overseas, and also held senior finance and accounting roles at AGL Energy and Salmat.

Brown will take responsibility for the critical role of managing the company's commercial functions including corporate governance, risk management, corporate planning and commercial contracts.

Scott Lowe, managing director, commented "I am delighted to welcome Ravi to the Blackthorn Resources executive team.

"I am also very pleased that Chris Brown will remain as Company Secretary and have responsibility for the critical corporate governance function."

The company has recently delivered its maiden shipment of zinc concentrate from its Perkoa Mine in Burkina Faso to the Port of Abidjan in Cote d'Ivoire and is nearing completion of the Pre-Feasibility Study for its wholly-owned Kitumba copper project in Zambia.

The first export shipment of 13,000 tonnes of zinc concentrate from Abidjan is expected in early September while the Kitumba PFS work to date has identified underground mining as the preferred mining operation.
