Legend Mining Could Have Found A Gold Source At Nkoutou In Cameroon

Legend Mining (ASX: LEG) may have located a source of gold at Ngovayang Project in Cameroon, from detailed mapping.

This has been confirmed by soil sampling, stream sediment sampling and the presence of artisanal workings.

Significantly, a 150 metre wide gold anomaly has been defined from soil sampling at the Nkoutou gold prospect which is located upstream of sediment sample anomaly (3.08, 2.62g/t Au) and artisanal workings.

This is associated with a major northeast trending shear containing sulphidic quartz veining and represents a potential gold source area and provides a focus for further work.

"For the first time in this gold program detailed mapping has potentially identified a source of gold, which has been confirmed by soil sampling, stream sediment sampling and the presence of artisanal workings," managing director Mark Wilson said.

"The soil sampling has identified a discrete gold anomaly in the central part of Nkoutou.

"Follow-up work programmes will be determined by further field investigations."

The company had acquired 292 soil samples at Nkoutou to follow up on highly anomalous gold values in stream sediment samples.

This highlighted the 150 metre wide zone along the central sample traverse with gold values between 28ppb and 560ppb gold.

This relatively discrete gold anomaly lies to the immediate north of a drainage channel, which returned significant stream sediment values of 3.08 grams per tonne, 2.62g/t, 1.5g/t and 1.33g/t gold.

The tenor, size and location of the soil anomaly explains the gold results in the drainage and associated artisanal workings.

Outcrop in the region surrounding the soil anomaly is limited, with the majority of the area covered by a brown clayey soil of unknown thickness.

However, recent geological mapping has identified a northeast to southwest trending shear corridor containing multiple narrow (5-30cm) sulphidic quartz veins, hosted in metasomatised quartz-biotite-amphibole gneiss.

This is considered the potential source for the gold and requires further follow-up work.

The regional setting of highly deformed and sheared gneissic rocks with associated granitoid intrusives, along with more localised features such as; gold in drainage/soil samples, sulphidic quartz veining and artisanal workings, all add to the prospectivity of the prospect.

The company had previously defined a 1,000 metre by 400 metre gold anomaly from soil sampling at the Bikala gold prospect.

Data from both prospects will help the company plan future gold focussed work at the Ngovayang Project.

This includes a combination of geochemical sampling (soils, rockchips, pitting, trenching), additional detailed geological mapping and possible ground geophysical surveys aimed at defining drill targets.
